Baby and Kid

An Elephant-Themed Baby Boy Shower

Recently, Amanda and I hosted a baby shower for our dear friend Yarina. If you’ve been following along for a few months, you might remember that we also hosted their gender reveal party a while back. This time, we had the party at our house, which provided great motivation for getting everything tidy!

Amanda actually made these banners for our baby shower two years ago. She cut paint chips into triangles and tied them with twine. So nice to be able to re-use party supplies! I strung white lights in the dining room to add to the festive vibe. These were probably the best party investment I have ever made. I purchased them for our wedding almost 9 years ago and they have been used for countless parties since then.

Joe and Yarina dug up their own baby photos that we could display. Their family especially seemed to appreciate that personal touch.

The most fun decoration to make is the diaper cake. I don’t know (or really care) if they are going out of style; I love to make them. It is so fun to give a bonus gift of diapers at a shower, and getting to adorn them with decorations coordinating with the nursery theme is so fun!

I also made the blocks out of scrapbook paper and Mod Podge. Someone did that for my teacher shower with Bradley, and he still enjoys playing with them.

We did not do any interactive games for this party. There were over 30 people in attendance and the space isn’t huge. Plus, this was a really special reunion for Yarina and Joe’s families, who had not all been together since their wedding 7 years ago. No need for games when the priority is really spending time with loved ones!

Amanda and I are really lucky. EJ was in charge of smoking the pork and Pat made 3 amazing cakes. We did the easy party foods like chips, cheese, veggies, etc. It is not possible to pull off a big party without lots of help!

Mary Grace made a batch of beautiful sugar cookies and shipped them from Tennessee. Everyone was absolutely amazed at how stunning they were! Plus, they are actually delicious. She is so talented!

Like I mentioned, we did not do formal games, but opening presents is always the best shower activity! Joe and Yarina received many special gifts, and it was such an honor to see them open everything.

We are so excited to meet their little boy soon! 💙
